Simon Peter Greenhill – The Modern Celebrant

Funerals

As a celebrant, I help families shape that story into a heartfelt goodbye — a moment to say thank you, to honour a life lived with joy and love, and to create space for memories that will last long after the day itself.

Not every story is simple, and sometimes emotions are complicated. With compassion, respect and patience, I work alongside you to create a ceremony that truly reflects the person at the centre of it — their passions, their quirks, their beliefs, their values, and the unique mark they left on the world.

Together, we’ll craft a meaningful tribute.
This may include carefully chosen music, a lovingly written eulogy, personal reflections from family and friends, or symbolic moments that bring comfort and connection. Whether you’re looking for something traditional, modern, spiritual, religious, or completely unique, the ceremony will be shaped around what feels right for you and for your loved one.

My role is to guide, support and help you build a farewell filled with sincerity, dignity and love — a ceremony that honours a life, tells a story, and brings people together when it matters most.

How I Work

How I Work

Losing someone you love is never easy, and planning a farewell can feel overwhelming. My role is to guide you through the process with compassion, clarity and complete respect for the person at the heart of the ceremony.

Get in Touch

Reach out in whatever way feels right for you — whether that’s by phone, email or message. I’m here to make things as easy as possible. I’ll respond promptly, offering support from the very first contact, and together we can arrange a time to meet that feels comfortable and convenient for you.

We Meet Together

Our meeting typically lasts between one and two hours, offering a gentle and supportive space to explore the look, feel and tone of the ceremony. During this time, we’ll talk through your loved one’s story — their personality, values, quirks and the moments that made them who they were. We can discuss any readings, poetry or music you’d like to include, along with eulogies, tributes and any cultural, religious or personal elements that feel important to honour. This time together is an opportunity for you to talk, remember and celebrate, while I listen with care and begin to form a true understanding of the person we are honouring.

Crafting the Ceremony

From our conversation, I’ll begin shaping the first draft of your ceremony script. This may include a full eulogy — either written by me on your behalf or crafted together — along with any personal tributes you’d like included. I can also prepare introductions, transitions and guiding words throughout the service if you’d like me to act as Master of Ceremonies.

Everything I create at this stage is a working draft. Nothing is final until it feels completely right to you. You’ll have the opportunity to read through the script, make changes, add personal touches and ensure that every word reflects your loved one with honesty, warmth and respect.

On the Day

I’ll arrive at the venue early to make sure everything flows smoothly.
I will:

  • Lead you and your guests through the ceremony with warmth and confidenc
  • Support anyone delivering a reading or tribute
  • Ensure the final script is brought to life with dignity, meaning and heartfelt compassion

My aim is to create a ceremony that feels like them — a fitting, meaningful tribute filled with love, respect and remembrance.
